Four Lady Braves Named To All-Peach Belt Conference Squad

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Newcomer Britney Bennett garnered Freshman of the Year accolades and joined three of her teammates on the all-conference squads as the Peach Belt Conference unveiled its 2010 Women's Soccer All-Conference team on Friday afternoon.

Svensson graced the first team as one of four forwards, while also sharing the PBC's "Golden Ball" award with Columbus State's Stephanie Lowery. Both players led the PBC with 17 goals this season, with Svensson also contributing four assists for a team-best 38 points. The Sweden native tallied 58 shots this season, 28 of which (.483) were on goal. She also tallied game-winning goals for the Lady Braves against Lenoir-Rhyne, Barton, Pfeiffer, Carson-Newman, Georgia College, while also recording her second career hat trick against Lenoir-Rhyne to earn her first of two weekly league honors.

Bennett, a Seminole, Fla., native, was selected as the first team goalkeeper after recording a conference-best nine shutouts. Bennett played in 18 games (17 starts) in goal and registered a miniscule 0.35 goals against average after allowing just six goals and racking up 82 saves. The newcomer ranks fifth nationally in saves percentage (.932), as well as ninth nationally in GAA. She becomes the second Lady Brave (Britney Joiner, 2008) in the last three seasons to take home the coveted PBC Freshman of the Year award.

Corbett earned first team honors in the midfield after an outstanding senior season in which she recorded two goals and eight assists for a total of 12 points, while also taking 34 shots, 15 of which (.441) were on goal. Corbett holds the UNCP career assists record at 28 along with program bests in games played (78) and games started (74).

Forsman earned second team accolades as a defender as a central part of the UNCP defense. She has totaled three assists with 22 shots, seven of which (.318) were on goal. Forsman spearheads a defense that currently totes the nation's 10th-best team shutout percentage (67 pct.) and team goals against average (0.429).

Columbus State's Stephanie Lowery and Clayton State's Cherie Sayon shared Player of the Year while Eric Faulconer of Armstrong Atlantic was awarded Coach of the Year. Columbus State led the conference with seven athletes while Armstrong Atlantic had six, North Georgia with three, Montevallo with two and Lander, Flagler, and Georgia College adding one each to the all-conference team.

The Lady Braves finish out the PBC Tournament as they face No. 12 Columbus State (17-1-1) in the semifinals on Friday at 5 p.m. The winners of both Friday contests, including the other semifinal matchup between Armstrong Atlantic and North Georgia, will meet in Sunday's championship game at 1 p.m.
