Forsman, Bennett Named Preseason All-PBC

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference office announced the 2011 Women's Soccer Preseason All-Conference Team on Friday afternoon and UNCP's Fanny Forsman and Britney Bennett were two of the 11 athletes named to the squad. 

Forsman, a junior from Borås, Sweden, played in 21 games with 20 starts for the Braves in 2010. She was named Second Team All-PBC as well as NSCAA Third Team All-Region after totaling 1,947 minutes on the field during her sophomore campaign. She helped anchor a UNCP defense that finished second in the nation with a .913 saves percentage as a squad as well as 12th in the nation and a PBC-best 0.53 goals against average. The Braves also tied for the PBC lead by allowing just 0.55 goals per game and finished ninth in the nation with a .636 shutout percentage. She tallied three assists from her central defender position while helping the UNCP defense post a school-record 14 shutouts.

Bennett, a sophomore from Seminole, Fla., was the unanimous choice by the league's coaches at goalkeeper. She led the conference with a total of 1,799 minutes in goal en route to being named First Team All-PBC, Daktronics Second Team All-Region, NSCAA Third Team All-Region and PBC Freshman of the Year. She was also named PBC Goalkeeper of the Week on four occasions (Sept. 21, Sept. 28, Oct. 19, Nov. 2) and set a new school record, finished second in the conference and 14th in the nation with 112 saves. She also spearheaded a UNCP defensive unit that posted a school-record 14 shutouts and finished second in the nation with a .913 saves percentage as a squad. She finished 12th in the nation and second in the PBC with a .50 goals against average and also ended her year third in the nation and first in the PBC with a saves average of .918. She led the conference with 10 shutouts by herself in goal which was twice as many as any other goalkeeper in the conference. She also posted a streak of 442:31 consecutive scoreless minutes in goal during a six-game stretch.

Both athletes were also named to the PBC Presidential Honor Roll for their efforts in the classroom during the 2010-11 academic year.
