Forsman Named PBC Defensive Player of the Week

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Following a two-game week that saw her notch five points and help the defense record two shutouts en route to a 2-0 record, UNCP junior defender Fanny Forsman has been named the Peach Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

Forsman, a junior from Borås, Sweden, recorded a goal in UNCP's 13-0 victory over Barton on Thursday while adding an assist, and then notched another goal in UNCP's 4-0 win over Pfeiffer. The central defender also spearheaded a UNCP defensive unit that allowed just 18 shots in two games ( five on goal) while not allowing a single goal to be scored.

She was named Preseason All-PBC prior to the start of the season.

Last year she played in 21 games with 20 starts. She was named Second Team All-PBC as well as NSCAA Third Team All-Region after totaling 1,947 minutes on the field. She helped anchor a UNCP defense that finished second in the nation with a .913 saves percentage as a squad as well as 12th in the nation and a PBC-best 0.53 goals against average. The Braves also tied for the PBC lead by allowing just 0.55 goals per game and finished ninth in the nation with a .636 shutout percentage. She tallied three assists from her central defender position while helping the UNCP defense post a school-record 14 shutouts.

UNCP returns to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Mount Olive for a matchup with the Mount Olive Trojans at 7 p.m.
