No. 15 UNCP Falls To North Georgia, 1-0, In Double Overtime
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – A goal by Emily Dover just 12 seconds into the second overtime pushed host North Georgia past No. 15 UNCP by a 1-0 final in Peach Belt Conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at the Soccer Complex in Dahlonega, Ga.
The Saints (5-0-0, 2-0-0 PBC) earned their second win in the all-time series on Dover's goal that came on a cross by Kelsey Martin.
"It was a classic UNC Pembroke/North Georgia battle," said UNCP head coach Lars Andersson. "We've had some success against them over the last five years and I guess the law of averages was not on our side. We made some adjustments at halftime and I thought we played very well in the second half. North Georgia just found a way to sneak the ball in behind us and score a quality goal. This is going to sting a bit but all we can do is congratulate them."
UNCP (4-1-1, 1-1-0 PBC) was held scoreless for the first time all season in the loss. Junior Elke Groothuis led the team with two shots on goal while Kayla Colon, Amalia Arvidsson and Andrea Collén each recorded one apiece. Sophomore Britney Bennett faced five shots on goal and turned four of them away.
The Lady Braves must rebound quickly because they face another tough opponent in Young Harris tomorrow afternoon in Young Harris, Ga.
