UNCP To Face Catawba In Final Regular Season Non Conference Tilt
PEMBROKE – The UNCP women's soccer squad will close out its non conference schedule on Tuesday when it travels to Salisbury for a matchup with the Catawba Lady Indians at 5 p.m. at Frock Field.
The UNCP Lady Braves (8-4-3, 3-4-2 PBC) had just one matchup last week against the Montevallo Falcons in Montevallo, Ala., on Saturday and that match ended in a 1-1 double-overtime tie. It was UNCP's sixth overtime matchup of the season and it holds a 1-2-3 record in those matchups. Freshman Amalia Arvidsson notched the only goal for UNCP in the matchup, her fifth of the season, which served as the game's equalizer.
Junior Andrea Collèn continues to lead the team in goals (seven), assists (five) and points (19) and those numbers place her tied for eighth, tied for fourth and eighth in the Peach Belt Conference, respectively. Sophomore Brittany Bennett leads the conference with 83 saves, an .892 saves percentage and a 0.65 goals against average while also sitting tied for second in the league with 10 goals against on the year.
UNCP is currently seventh in the NSCAA Southeast Region rankings and fifth in the PBC standings.
The Lady Indians (4-10-0, 3-5-0 SAC) are currently seventh in the South Atlantic Conference standings and enters the matchup having lost eight out of their last 11 matchups. Alyssa Retundie leads the team with five goals and 12 points on the season while Brittany Gibbons leads the team with three assists. Erinn Wescoat is second on the squad with eight points and four goals thus far in 2011.
Lindsay Webster has played every minute of every match in goal and has posted a 1.86 goals against average and a .730 saves percentage in more than 1,300 minutes between the pipes.
UNCP is 3-3-0 all-time against Catawba including a win by a 3-0 score at Varsity Grounds in 2010.
