Bennett, Forsman Named To NCCSIA All-State Team

RALEIGH - After recently awarded National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) all-region laurels, sophomore goalkeeper Britney Bennett and junior defender Fanny Forsman were named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) All-State Team on Wednesday.

This is the third time that UNCP has represented the NCCSIA all-state team since the 2008 campaign and the second year the Lady Braves have been honored with multiple representatives.  

A 2011 First Team All-Peach Belt Conference selection, as well as a Daktronics Second Team All-Region performer last season, Bennett led the conference with 102 saves and a .887 saves percentage (among goalkeepers with at least 10 starts). She was also third in the conference with a 0.71 goals against average (among goalkeeper with at least 10 starts) and her saves percentage total places her 14th nationally. She entered the 2011 season by being the unanimous selection at goalkeeper on the PBC Preseason All-Conference squad.

A five-time PBC Goalkeeper of the Week during her time at UNCP, including once this season, Bennett also earned PBC Freshman of the Year honors last season as well as Third Team All-Region distinction by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). This season she posted six shutouts to give her 16 total during her two-year career, and she has a career record of 23-10-5.

Forsman, a native of Borås, Sweden, helped spearhead a UNCP defensive squad that finished second in the conference in goals against average (0.68) en route to being named First Team All-PBC and earning a spot on the All-PBC Tournament Team. A Preseason All-PBC selection as well as a Second Team All-PBC selection last season was also named to the Third Team All-Region squad.

Forsman started every game for UNCP in 2011 while posting three goals and two assists for a total of eight points. She was named PBC Defensive Player of the Week for two-straight weeks in September after the UNCP defense allowed just one goal through its first five games. She was also named to the 2011 PBC All-Academic Team as well as the PBC Presidential Honor Roll on two occasions.
