 AMERICUS, Ga. – Georgia Southwestern rallied back from a 5-2 deficit at No. 3 doubles, and captured a key point at No. 1 singles by virtue of a third-set tiebreaker, to key a 5-4 win over visiting UNCP on Sunday afternoon at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex.

The setback marked the third-straight loss for UNCP (4-10, 0-6 PBC) who also closed out an eight-match stretch away from home with the contest. The triumph helped Georgia Southwestern (10-6, 2-5) snap a four-match series losing streak to the Braves. The Lady 'Canes have now won three of their last five outings on the 2011 season as well.

Hannah Herlocker and Christian Minnick got the Braves on the board with their 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles over Kalie Douberly and Melinda Vansant, but the hosts knotted the team score back up a short time later on the heels of Leady Cuellar and Ginny Jones's tight 8-6 triumph on court No. 1 over Jenna McGary and Mia Winterbottom.

UNCP looked to have all the tools to take a 2-1 lead into singles play, but Georgia Southwestern's Brooke Anglin and Mollie McGowan rallied back from a 5-2 deficit at No. 3 doubles to upend Maricel Quintero and Madeline DiNunzio by an 8-6 count.

Winterbottom tied up the team score in a hurry for UNCP with her 6-0, 6-2 win over Jones at No. 2 singles, but the Lady 'Canes would regain a comfortable lead after Anglin ousted Quinterro 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles and McGowan defeated DiNunzio by the same scores on court No. 5.

UNCP would tie the match back up by using Herlocker's 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles over Douberly, as well as Minnick's 6-3, 6-3 victory over Vansant on court No. 6. Cuellar would hand the team victory to Georgia Southwestern though, battling back from a 7-5 loss in her opening set with McGary at No. 1 singles to take the final two sets 6-2 and 7-6 (7-4).

The Braves will return to action again on Wednesday when they suit up to battle PBC rival Montevallo (2-11, 0-6) in a 2 p.m. contest at UNCP's Varsity Tennis Courts. Admission to all UNCP tennis matches is free.
