 PEMBROKE – UNCP used a 7-4 tiebreaker to complete a sweep through doubles competition and then booked six singles victories in straight sets to register its first Peach Belt Conference victory of the season with a 9-0 blanking of visiting Montevallo on Wednesday afternoon in Pembroke.

The triumph snapped a short two-match losing skid for UNCP (5-10, 1-6 PBC) who also registered its first league victory since turning in a 6-3 win over Montevallo on March 20 of last season. The setback marked the 12th-straight loss for the Falcons (2-12, 0-7) who last tasted victory with an 8-1 win over Stillman on February 12.

Jenna McGary and Mia Winterbottom gave the Braves their first point of the day with an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles over Helene Nordgreen and Calli Robinson, but the hosts added to its team lead a short time later when Maricel Quintero and Madeline DiNunzio finished off an 8-2 win over Montevallo's Amy McGucken and Yulia Shvetsova.

Hannah Herlocker and Christian Minnick would use a 7-4 tiebreaker on court No. 2 to complete the doubles sweep for the Braves with a 9-8 triumph over Kayla Hackett and Kodi Bobo.

The hosts continued the onslaught in singles competition with six no-doubt wins. Winterbottom yielded just two games in ousting Hackett 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, while Quintero clinched the team victory for the Braves with a 6-1, 6-1, win over Bobo on court No. 4. Herlocker surrendered just three games in defeating Robinson by 6-2, 6-0 scores at No. 3 singles, while DiNunzio turned back McGucken 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.

McGary toughed out a 6-2, 6-3, win over Nordgreen in the featured match on court No. 1, while Minnick finished off a perfect day for UNCP by blanking Hayley Gant 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.

The Braves will be back in action again on Saturday when they travel to Florence, S.C., for a rare neutral site league matchup with No. 11 Clayton State (5-4, 4-3). Tennis action is set to get underway at 3 p.m. on Francis Marion's Kassab Courts.
