Lady Braves Soar Past Fayetteville State 9-0
FAYETTEVILLE – Visiting UNCP captured all three doubles matches and swept singles play in posting a 9-0 shutout against Fayetteville State on Thursday afternoon at Arnette Park.
The Lady Braves (10-12) yielded just five games in sweeping through doubles play and taking a 3-0 lead over the Lady Broncos (6-14) heading into singles competition. Mia Winterbottom and Hannah Herlocker defeated Varice Love and Brittney Williams, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles, while Leigh-Anne McAfee and Shelby Bickel upended Samantha Ledbetter and M'Waka Thomas, 8-1, on court No. 2. Madeline DiNunzio and Beverly Vause won by default at No. 3 doubles.
Bickel and DiNunzio both shut out Thomas and White 6-0, 6-0, respectively, on court Nos. 4 and 5, while Herlocker allowed only two games against Ledbetter for the win at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Winterbottom ousted Love, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles before McAfee beat Williams 6-2, 6-4 on court No. 2. Vause won by default in No. 6 singles.
The Lady Braves will be back in action against on Saturday when they take on North Georgia (7-14, 1-8 PBC). Match time is slated for 1 p.m. at UNCP's Varsity Tennis Courts.
