Tennis’ Madeline DiNunzio Named UNCP Student-Athlete Of The Week

PEMBROKE – For her efforts in pacing the UNCP tennis team to four victories on the week, including a pair of wins over Peach Belt Conference opponents, sophomore Madeline DiNunzio has been named this week's UNCP Student-Athlete of the Week, athletic department officials announced.

DiNunzio, a native of Canada (Toronto, Ontario), registered a 6-2 record on the court in the four wins, including a perfect 4-0 mark at No. 5 singles. She booked a match-tying three-set singles victory in the 5-4 comeback win over North Georgia on Saturday (UNCP trailed 3-0), and then rallied back from an opening-set loss on Sunday to deliver the match-clinching three-set victory in a 5-4 win over No. 11 Clayton State.

She began her dominating week in singles competition by shutting out Fayetteville State's Jasmine White, and concluded the run by yielding just one game in a win over Chowan's Brittany Moser.

DiNunzio has already tallied 20 singles victories in the midst of her second season in Pembroke, as well as 14 wins in doubles competition.  She will take a personal five-match winning streak in singles competition (career high) into Wednesday season finale against Pfeiffer at home.
