Tennyson Named Southeast Region Athlete Of The Year
NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field
and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on
Monday winners of USTFCCCA Region Athletes and Coaches of the Year
honors for the 2010 Outdoor Track & Field season in Division II
as voted by the division's coaches. Among those recognized was
UNCP's own Kye
Tennyson.
Separate categories are assigned to track athletes and field
athletes as well as head coaches and assistant coaches. Tennyson, a
sophomore was recognized in the field category for her achievements
this year in the high jump.
Most of the athletes and coaches who were recognized will
participate in the NCAA Division II Championships held in
Charlotte, N.C., starting Thursday.
Tennyson, a sophomore from Jacksonville, N.C., will be representing the Lady Braves at NCAA Nationals in the high jump and currently sits 14th of 17 accepted athletes in the event with a clearance height of 1.70m. With her appearance at NCAA Nationals, Tennyson has already secured herself in UNCP's record books as the first female track & field athlete to qualify and attend the NCAA National meet.
Tennyson achieved her provisional qualifying height along with a first place finish and new school record at the Braves Classic on March 17. During her first season with UNCP, Tennyson has placed in the top-5 in seven of nine contests on her way to picking up four first place finishes.
