Track & Field’s Katherine Davis Named UNCP Athlete Of The Week

PEMBROKE – After shattering a pair of school records in leading the UNCP women's track and field team to an outstanding performance at the Coastal Carolina Shamrock Invitational over the weekend, senior Katherine Davis has been named this week's UNCP Athlete of the Week, athletic department officials announced Monday.

Davis, a Hampstead native, turned in NCAA Provisional Qualifying marks in both the hammer and discus throws at the event inside Myrtle Beach High School's Doug Shaw Stadium on Friday and Saturday. Having already shattered her own school record from a year ago in her previous outing two weeks ago, Davis booked a throw of 52.72m in the hammer throw to establish a new program best. She continued the momentum into Saturday, tallying a school record throw of 43.45m in the discus as well.

In addition to provisionally qualifying in both events, Davis also posted a personal record throw of 12.50m in the shot put – just 0.90m off the NCAA Provisional qualifying mark.
