HICKORY – The UNCP women's track and field team registered four top-10 finishes to hold tight to fourth place after the conclusion of the first day of competition for the Lady Braves at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championships on Friday on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne.
Freshman Hana Mezinger used her fourth throw to collect to a second place finish in the javelin with a mark of 35.51m for a new personal best, along with a seventh place finish in hammer throw with a throw of 31.79m. Junior Diricka Mitchell fouled in four of her six throws, but used her final marked throw to claim a second place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.04m.
Junior Annette Sem competed in the 10,000m run for the first time this season and notched a third place finish with a time of 40:25.84 in the event.
Anderson (S.C.) currently leads the teams with 59 points, while UNCP sits in fourth with 24 points.
The women's track and field team will continue competition at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
