Lady Braves Down Broncos 3-1
FAYETTEVILLE – Despite a season-low
attack percentage, the UNCP volleyball team still out-hit the host
Fayetteville State Broncos in a nonconference match Monday in
Fayetteville, and left town with a 3-1 victory over their neighbors
to the north.
The victory improves the Lady Braves (8-3, 1-1 PBC) to 42-4 all-time against the Broncos, and is their third-straight win in the series. The Broncos defeat lowers their 2010 mark to 7-3 overall and 7-2 in the CIAA.
In a match marred in inconsistency and mistakes, the Lady Braves managed only one set with an attack percentage over .111 while the hosts best set featured a team attack percentage of just .100. The two teams combined for 54 errors in the match, 26 service errors and seven ball-handling errors.
Rebecca Morgan led UNCP in kills for the third-straight match, and her 11 kills stood as the match high after no individual on the FSU squad recorded double-figures in that category. Sophomore middle hitter Shay Peterson finished second on the team with nine kills and her five total blocks tied her with Ifeyinwa Nwokolo of FSU for the match high.
Heather Bolwerk recorded 27 assists on the night and added seven digs on the defensive end. Freshman Marissa Baker led the back row defense with 18 digs and added two service aces.
UNCP will get back to their conference schedule on Friday when they travel to Greenwood, S.C. for a PBC matchup with Lander at 7:00 p.m.
