Mount Olive Pulls Away With 3-0 Victory Over Lady Braves
MOUNT OLIVE – Despite nearly making a comeback each game, the UNCP volleyball team was unable to hold tight and pull out a win as the Mount Olive Trojans captured the 3-0 victory on Friday evening at the Mount Olive Invitational.
In the opening game, the Lady Braves (2-4) equaled up the score at 12-12 before Mount Olive (3-3) inched away from UNCP for the 25-20 win in the first game. The Black and Gold held a 19-16 lead in game two but fell short as the Trojans notched a 6-1 run to win the second game, 25-23.
UNCP fought back and claimed a 11-7 run to tie the final game up at 19-19 as Taylor Gallentine and Sawyer Gray each added two kills during the run. Mount Olive posted the final six points for the 25-19 win.
Gallentine led the Lady Braves with 13 kills and a .400 hitting percentage, while Ashlyn Rebok dished out 21 assists. UNCP hit a combined .202 hitting percentage and notched 30 digs, five service aces and six blocks.
Mount Olive was led by Carly White with 17 kills, while Dezirae Mackey collected 12. The squad hit .292 and posted two more digs that UNCP. Nicole Karas had 36 assists out of the team's total 39.
The Lady Braves will continue action in the second day of the Mount Olive Invitational with games against St. Augustine's (0-4) at 11 a.m. and Virginia State (0-3) 1 p.m. All matches are played in the Kornegay Arena on the campus of Mount Olive.
