Entering his eighth year at UNC Pembroke, head coach Jeff Billington ended the 2011 season with a 16-16 overall record after leading the Braves to their second winning season since 2001 and their best winning percentage since 1994 in 2010. After spending his first two seasons rebuilding the UNCP volleyball program that went 15-55 the two years prior to his arrival, Billington has accumulated a 100-127 overall record and a 26-60 record in the Peach Belt Conference.

The seventh head coach in the history of the Lady Braves, Billington came to UNCP after four successful seasons at his alma mater, Frostburg State University in Maryland.

In his final season at FSU, he was named Co-Coach of the Year of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference after receiving Coach of the Year honors the previous two seasons. He led the Bobcats to wins in their last 35 conference contests, including the last three conference tournament championships.

Under Billington, Frostburg State compiled an 100-38 overall record and a 39-6 record in the AMCC. In 2004, he became the program’s all-time winningest coach with a victory over Mary Washington on Sept. 16.

Billington joined Frostburg after guiding the girls’ varsity program at Paul VI High School in Fairfax, Va., to a 73-21 mark over a four-year period, including an impressive 52-match winning streak that spanned his last two seasons. He led Paul VI to a 25-0 record in 1999, a 27-0 mark in 2000 and back-to-back Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and Virginia Independent School Volleyball Association state titles.

Paul VI finished the 2000 season ranked No. 3 in the Washington Post Metro Area poll. For his efforts, Billington was named VISVA and Washington Post All-Met Coach of the Year in 1999, as well as VISVA Coach of the Year in 2000.

In addition to Paul VI, Billington served as the assistant coach for the George Mason University men’s volleyball team (1998) and the Marymount University women’s volleyball team (1995-96). He also coached the Asics Metro Junior Olympic Girl’s 16 team in 1999-00. From 1993-2001, Billington taught health and physical education in Fairfax County, Va.

Billington earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Frostburg State in 1984 and his master’s degree in human performance in 1993, also from FSU. While a graduate student, he taught health and physical education classes, coached the Bobcat men’s club volleyball team and also served as an instructor at FSU volleyball camps.

Billington is a certified CAP Level I and II volleyball coach. He and his wife, Laurie, reside in Wagram.
