Lady Braves Take Top Spot At UNCP Invitational
PEMBROKE – The UNCP women's cross country team had seven runners finish in the top 10 to help the Lady Braves place first out of four teams at the 26th Annual UNCP Cross Country Invitational at Luther Britt Park in Lumberton on Saturday. Sophomore Annette Sem led the Lady Braves with a second place finish and time of 24:24.16 in the 6K race for her new personal record.
The next five places also went to the Lady Braves. Megan Carney 24:24.16) grabbed third, Bonnie MacDonald (24:37.13) controlled fourth, Livia Mahaffie (24:53.49) managed fifth, with Woodi Jones (26:18.89) and Catherine Shoemaker (26:21.80) finishing in sixth and seventh place, respectively.
Coker's Kendyl Seawright placed first in the invitational to help the Cobras grab second place overall . Amanda Massengale took 10th place for St. Andrews and paced the Knights to a third place standing. Methodist rounded out the field in fourth place.
UNCP will travel to Cary on October 1 for the Great American Cross Country Invitational. The women's 5K race is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
